Do You Love Me? A Deep and Meaningful Poem by Rumi

Do You Love Me Poem Rumi

“A lover asked his beloved, Do you love yourself more than you love me? The beloved replied, I have died to myself and I live for you
” ~ Rumi

There’s this beautiful quote from Rumi that goes like this: “The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere, they’re in each other all along.”

Yes.

Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere, they’re in each other all alone. And when they are brought face to face with one another; when their hearts melt into one another – living as One, no longer as two – they begin to realize that there was never a time when they were apart. For love unites everything in perfect Oneness
.

In Truth, they were in each other all along.

What I will share with you today is a short, yet incredibly powerful poem from the great Sufi poet, Rumi. In the hope that it will rekindle in your heart the memory of that great love and free you from the chains of your past and self importance, and lead you back to a place of perfect surrender where you and Love live as One, no longer as two.

Do You Love Me?

A lover asked his beloved,
Do you love yourself more
than you love me?

The beloved replied,
I have died to myself
and I live for you.

I’ve disappeared from myself
and my attributes.
I am present only for you.

I have forgotten all my learning,
but from knowing you
I have become a scholar.

I have lost all my strength,
but from your power
I am able.

If I love myself
I love you.
If I love you
I love myself.

~Rumi
